Aamir Khan Incredible India campaign Contract over, govt did not remove Aamir Khan, says Mahesh Sharma: A controversy surrounding actor Aamir Khan erupted after a department of media on Wednesday reported that he had been removed by the Centre under Tourism Ministry as the brand ambassador of the Incredible India campaign.

Nevertheless, clarifying the stand, MoS, Tourism of his ministry, Mahesh Sharma told The Indian Express that it was only a contractual issue with advertising agency McCann Worldgroup. The Rs 2.96-crore contract with the service, which featured Khan in a movie for the ministry, lately finished.

Inquired about what occurs next, Sharma said, “There’s an effective procedure to farther finalise the name. A suggestion will soon be tabled before a board along with the board will finalise the name of individual and the service. In the new arrangement, the board can finalise Amir Khan or another man.”

Congress leapt to the fray, using its representative Randeep Surjewala, saying, “Non-renewal of ‘Incredible India’ brand ambassador contract of Aamir Khan represents the small-minded mindset, parochial strategy and intemperate disposition of the Modi government.”

The Ministry further clarifies that at present it’s a contractual agreement with creative service Mc Cann Worldwide to create social awareness effort as well as the effort that is said featured Shri. Aamir Khan.”
